Basic Principles:
Compared to the Elvo Mark III the Elvo IV again was remarably improved. We implemented a lot of issues our customers came along with. Especially the clamping system and the length of the preview area inside the body part was changed.
On the picture, you see the Elvo IV fully assembled, but with the optional riffle frame instead of the normal frame. The sluice is shipped with the normal frame, known from the Universal II sluice (but including the fancy lightning, the "Goldblitz"). The overall length was not change (152cm x30cm, funnel width 52cm) and also the transport position stays the same (90cm). The used material (1,5mm aluminium) and the overall design stayed the same, too.
what's new?
- The preview rubber was extended once again to get an even better overview of the gold content of the material being shoveled in. Optionally, the Goldblitz Goldfish is now also available as an optimal preview rubber!
- The clamping concept has been adapted: two additional clamps have been attached, which hold the hopper in the transport position. In the Elvo III, this function was taken over by one of the clamps of the body.
- The nuggetbox has fallen away completely. The Elvo IV (and probably also the Elvo III) does not need a box at the back because the restraint is optimal even for small and smallest of them.
- In any case, we recommend the use of our Top Gold expanded metal mesh (see pictures!), which was developed in cooperation with our expanded metal mesh manufacturer. Advantage is the better flow on the surface, which we hundreds of small ripples acts. The expanded metal can also be retrofitted separately for older Elvo sluices.
- The frame was taken from the Universal II, since we used it as a carrier of technology so far. Althoug it is made out of a thin (1,5mm) aluminium sheet, it is strong and rigid and presses expanded metal and miner's moss tightly to the bottom of the sluice. It is very lightweighted and showes, what is makeable with engineering compared to the use of simple welding constructions out of heavy steel.
- The optional and additional riffle-frame comes with three extra riffles to generate huge vortices if you have enough water and/or strong current. Of course, the dedention storage was increased, so it is perfect for using it in areas with lots of black sand or together with machines. You may order this fram as a spare part but together with a sluice, it is cheaper to use the option below.
- The intended gap between the guide ridge and the frame leading edge was maintained.
- Stud bolts made of stainless steel A2, rivets made of aluminum / stainless steel
Further configuration of Elvo IV and Elvo III
- Designed to be laser cutted. This sluice (and all its forerunners) were not bend from scrap metal in a garage but manufactured in a modern batch production process. Several hundrets of Elvo sluices are used within the creeks of the world. It meets the highest requirements both concerning quality and design. We guarantee the availability of spare parts for a long long time.
- Demountable construction: transport position 90cm, working position 152cm. Using the Disentis Funnel", the overall length is limited to 120cm (following the local rules at the Disentis area). Backfitting is done within 15 seconds.
- Big inflow funnel, completely covered with rubber mat. The rubber mat has two functions: fisrt to prevent the funnel from beeing bulged by larger stones and second to hold back finer gravel for a short periode of time to allow a constant material flow to the sluice body.
- Clamping construction of the frame makes it very easy to open the sluice for clean up. Since we do not have a bridge like connection between the frame tops (we just do not need it), the size of the stones is only limited by the gravity of the planet, you are working on ;-)
- The deposit systems inside the sluice is optimized for gold flitters, since nuggets are not really a challenge, aren't they? The sluice will not return any gold flitters which are caught in the miner's moss, so you can showel the whole day without any clean up needed.
- All gaps are closed usind outdoor silicone made in germany. All gluings are done with industry used contact adhesive, resistant to water and sunlight. We experienced the very best!
- We use aluminium instead of steel to reduce weight whereever we can. If you apply a little engineering to it, it has the same strength as steel (see planes or zeppeline). Rust is not our friend! Only our screws are made out of steel, but we do not use it for expanded metals or frame construction.
Description of the options:
- Top Gold expanded Metal: replaces the standard expanded metal and introduces the functionality of the 'hundrets of micro vortices' to the sluice.
- Extra Riffles Frame: Frame for strong current, extra deposit space and huge vortices. Mighte be helpful in muddy environment.
- Disentis funnel: Reduces the length to 120cm as forced in the Disentis region.
Description of accessories:
Henderson type hand pump: See shop item 'Henderson Pump' for further details of the item itself. The pump is the most important tool if you are working on bedrock: first, you free the bedrock my filling all the gravel in the sluice box, second, you vacuum the bedrock with the pump. Here you will find most of the gold, if gold has nugget shape and all your lager findings will be in the pumped material. If you are using the showel only, you defenitly squandering gold!
We strongly recommend the usage of a rack if working with the sluices. See here for a selection of available racks. The rack makes it easy to adjust the rigth position of the sluice and everybody who is sluicing in a "civilized" creek knows, what I am talking about: the heigth of the water is sometimes changing very fast and frequent. with a rack, it takes secons to adjust these changes. Also the primary setup of the sluice is reduced to seconds. Another advantage is, that you can place the sluice directely in the stream, without any dam. Never walk without!
You should also consider the use of sandbags, which are very handy if used with a rack and the sluice. The sandbacks gives a perfect area of support for the funnel. Also, no water will flow under your sluice so you can use the all water for the sluice. The sandbags are available as twopack and fivepack.
A very handy 'little helper' is the stone bridge made from brushed stainless steel (what?? No Aluminium? No, not this time!). It is to be placed on the sluice body like a bridge, best place is the last 30cm of the sluice. Some weights will be placed on top of this "bridge" (e.g. some stoines, a sandbag, etc.) prventing the sluice from floating in the current (since the sluice itself is like a hulk of a ship. The bridge shape prevents stones from getting stucked and no barrier wave will destroy the flow inside the sluice! In addition to that, it looks great ;-). See shop item for further information about the stone bridge.
Hint:
The usage of this item and many more principels of goldpanning are described in our goldpanning book, wich is available only in German at the moment. If you are interested in translating it to any language and sell it outside Germany-Austria-Swizerland, please contact me!
